The Silicon Photomultiplier for High Speed Photometry
The Silicon Photomultiplier (SPM) offers sensitivity comparable to conventional photomultipliers with the added advantage of small size, low operating voltages, and robust tolerance to excess/ambient light. A Peltier cooled SPM running at -30°C was used in conjunction with wideband electronics and a 17-inch Astrograph to collect photometric data without a reference star. High speed photometric ...
متن کاملHigh-speed photometry of the Recurrent Nova IM Normae
The recurrent nova IM Nor is found to have an orbital period of 2.462 h, shown by periodic dips in brightness. This is only the second recurrent nova known to have such a short period. We interpret the light curve as largely produced by a reflection effect from the heated face of the secondary star, probably with addition of a partial eclipse of the accretion disc.
متن کاملThe TAOS Project: High-Speed Crowded Field Aperture Photometry
We have devised an aperture photometry pipeline for data reduction of image data from the Taiwanese-American Occultation Survey (TAOS). The photometry pipeline has high computational performance, and is capable of real-time photometric reduction of images containing up to 1000 stars, within the sampling rate of 5 Hz. The pipeline is optimized for both speed and signal-to-noise performance, and ...
متن کاملHigh speed photometry of faint Cataclysmic Variables : III . V 842
We present further results from a high speed photometric survey of faint cataclysmic variables. We find that V842 Cen (Nova Cen 1986 No. 2) is highly active, but with no evident orbital modulation. BY Cir (Nova Cir 1995) is an eclipsing system with an orbital period (Porb) of 6.76 h. TV Crv, an SU UMa type dwarf nova, is found to have Porb = 1.509 h from photometry at quiescence. DD Cir (Nova C...
متن کاملHigh-Speed Energy-Resolved STJ Photometry of the Eclipsing Binary UZ For
We present high time-resolution optical photometry of the eclipsing binary UZ For using a superconducting tunnel junction (STJ) device, a photon-counting array detector with intrinsic energy resolution. Three eclipses of the ∼18 mag 126.5 min orbital binary were observed using a 6 × 6 array of Tantalum STJs at the 4.2-m William Herschel Telescope on La Palma. The detector presently provides ind...
